Applying perfume on lotion is not ideal. The alcohol in the perfume ends up breaking down the lotion. It should be down the other around. Apply the perfume let it settle then apply the lotion. This locks in the perfume longer on the body
@@azmike3572 try mixing cologne with body odor, no deodorant and a tacky outfit and see if that doesn’t deduct a few points from your chances of getting laid… I’m sure someone agrees with my thesis
Hey I'm woman and hoping the info on this video applies to me as well as men. This is the most informative video I've come across about the where, how, and why of wearing fragrance. "I want to be discovered, not announced" is definitely my style. Thanks for the video!
As a sweaty guy, this video was a lifesaver for me. Ever since I started being more strategic with how I applied cologne I noticed it stays on much longer! Thanks for this!
I watch a fair number of fragance videos. I think this the first time I hear a clear argumented explanation about why rubbing fragance is not good. Saludos Antonio
Im officially dumping Jeremy guys. Content content content. You know your stuff sir. A lot. This video in particular is the only fragrance video anyone needs.
Just found your videos today. Thank you for putting together this content. I used to take great pride in how I dressed and took care of myself. Over COVID I gained 50 pounds and now I work from home. I have found that I no longer take care of myself. Your video on what heavy guys should wear really helped me. I feel like I have a renewed sense of wanting to look (and smell) my best.
1 small spray on the inside elbow of each arm 1 small spray behind each knee 1 small spray at the nape of the neck Works every time for me, lasts for hours.
@@Righteous1ist I think it depends on the type of cologne you buy as cheaper cologne works best if you spray each spot Clipper _Dames mentions but more pricey colognes you'll only need to spray just once for a long lasting fragrance.
"...so that the world will start to smell better." Liked the video after that! I've been interested in various scents since I discovered Polo Double Black in my grandfather's cologne cabinet as a boy. I'm pleased that you take being a classy and well-groomed gentleman so seriously, we all should.
Your comment really applies to me. Everything i know about male grooming has come from trial and error. I grew up with my mom as my only parent/life teacher. I'm 51 and still have no idea if I'm doing anything right.
@@jadeduh4555 the younger generation after generation X. After that generation divorce and single motherhood became much more celebrated, and traditional marriage and families mocked. I know what you were trying to imply though. Nice try but nope
@@Godric_71 yep and my parents stayed together. My dad thought his job stopped with working though. He never cared about style , fragrances etc so I never learned about any of that until the last 10 years, well after he died . Sad really. I’m 51 as well
@@Tbone3471 🤨 OK..? What exactly am I implying with my question? Lol Since you know a lot, which of the three generations do I fall into? And my mother being single didn't affect me already knowing (having common sense) how to apply any fragrance. My girl wears her body spray over her person before she walks out the door. (Lmfao! Idiots huh) 🤷🏻♂
Some clarifications on naming conventions, because I noticed a few possible misinterpretations a person can make that weren't expanded upon in the video. Eau Fraiche: 1-3% Aftershave/Splash- 2-4% EDC: Eau De Cologne- 2-4% EDT: Eau De Toilette- 5-15% EDP: Eau De Parfum- 15-20% Extrait: Extrait de Parfum - 20-40+% Most of what was said is spot on, however, a fragrance that says Eau Fraiche in the name isn't always Fraiche concentration. Not saying he said this, but it wasn't further explained. It can be the naming convention of a particular fragrance. For example, Issey Miyake Eau Fraiche, or Versace Man Eau Fraiche, or Hermes Tres Eau Fraiche. None of them are Eau Fraiche concentration, they're EDT to EDP. It just means a fresher version. You have to look at the concentration and not make a decision based on the name of the fragrance. You might be missing out on some great fragrances that last a long time because you've mistakenly assumed that they're of a lower concentration. Lastly, regarding extrait de parfum as this one always confuses people thanks to companies who market perfumes as "Le parfum" or "parfum" because they know people will think it's stronger. YSL's le parfum appears to be shown as an example of an Extrait, or pure parfum (perhaps not on purpose), but it is not. It's an Eau De Parfum, not Extrait De Parfum. Just like JPG's Le Male Le Parfum, Sauvage Parfum, Eros Parfum, Bleu De Chanel Parfum, etc etc. All of these are Eau de Parfum and not Extrait de Parfum. There's a ton of frags with this name attached to it that aren't extraits. Some are even EDTs. You get the idea. They're just naming conventions made to trick you into thinking they last longer. It's pretty rare to find an extrait strength perfume from a designer house as that's often niche house territory, so don't be confused by the "parfum" name the designer brand adds. Nasomattos 30ML of Pardon, for example, is a true Extrait de Parfum from a niche house. (Highly recommended ultra masculine frag btw) Bonus tip: As an alternative to the neck, right above your collarbones under your shirt is one of the best locations to spray as they're high heat locations because they're right by the subclavian arteries, and unlike the neck, is hidden from light, so they will pump out your fragrance harder, while also lasting longer. Fragrances when exposed to sunlight dissipate and breakdown quicker. (also why it's best to store fragrances in a dark location, or at least away from sunlight. Artificial is fine. UV is the issue.) Hopefully this helped anyone new to fragrances. Cheers!
Does spray distance of atomizer from skin affect projection of fragrance? Most of the fragrances in my collection are dense, EDP’s, Parfums or Middle Eastern Rose/Oud’s which don’t seem to project well on my oily skin?! How can I apply dense or higher fragrance concentrations with better performance? Cooler areas such as the wrist, seem to hamper fragrance development into the base notes. Applying to my neck (warmer?!) gives better fragrance progression, unless I become noseblind! Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!
You learn something new every day...up until this morning I did the rubbing thing. Great advice and passion - no wonder he started his own range of colognes!
I’m only 16 and still in high school, but I found this video because I want to smell good… overall, I learned a TON from this video. Thank you so much!
yeah dont listen to this bozo, dude. ONE spritz in the air and walking into it right after a shower is by far the best way to go about it. dont know why the clown claims the cologne will end up on the floor you can literally feel the entire cloud hit you torso and the bathroom floor wont become slick with cologne puddles lmfao none of that rubbing and sure as hell no multiple sprays (my god). just one spray. theres a reson why the bottle comes with its particular spray mechanism. use it. and another thing. DONT buy a cologne just because someone else likes it. buy a mid range priced scent that YOU like cause if you apply it properly (see above) youll be smelling it sublty all day long so you might as well like it. ive had the expensive scents and theyre no better or worse in quality or longevity than midrangers so save your money. also try to stay away from perfumed soaps and detergents. not only do they mess up your cologne's scent but those perfumes also sometimes destroy your skin and clothing.
@@TEFVoid Look into expensive brands. That's what I do to make sure I don't have the same smell as everybody else. I feel it makes me different, like rare. Every one isn't going to spend $450 & up for fragrance. Quality shit.
I'm a woman but... same thing right? My perfume never seems to last and this is the best presented video I've found so far, even if I'm not quite the target audience 😅 Thank you!
Tbh anyone can wear fragrence Fellow woman here this video helped me too And tbh i dont think the way you spray is gendered exacly so this video is helpfull for anyone
I’ve been wearing a parfum for almost a year and wore it on my clothes not my skin, i missed the latter notes of my cologne and now that I’m doing it correctly i realized why i loved this one so much, it has SUCH complex smells!
You skimmed past this, but putting on after moisturiser is a great tip. Unscented moisturiser of course, so it sits on the skin as opposed to soaking into dry skin🤙
For me applying to the back of my neck and ears works best . A lot of good advice ! It made me think of my journey as a collector. I used to over spray and go nose blind . As my collection has grown over the years i learned that when I get used to smelling something that I don’t enjoy it as much . I Gotta use my favorites here and there especially when they are discontinued that way it makes it all the more invigorating !
This is the first guy I totally agree with when it comes to cologne. Nice to know that I was instinctively using cologne the right way from the get go.
Great video! I like your style, Antonio. I’m relatively new to men’s fragrances. I’m old school at 69 years old and have been a Drakkar Noir man for decades. They used to sell a face balm that I loved but stopped about 5-7 years ago. Between these two products, that was my signature scent full stop. Then, about a year ago, I got a bug up my butt to explore fragrances and discovered a whole new world in the realm of fragrances that needed to be explored and taken seriously, so here I am. I have a 73-year-old neighbor who loves wearing perfume, and there is one that she wears that drives me nuts, I want to inhale her each time I see her. Her approach is akin to Curly Fragrance because I know when she is home or has just walked by my vicinity; I just love the way she smells. Antonio, your advice is solid, honest, tested, sophisticated, and real, and it is clear that you know your stuff, and that you are dedicated to the proposition of men looking and feeling their best - bravo! Having seen a ton of videos on male grooming in general, I now have consolidated my fragrance and grooming gurus down to three: You, Antonio, Demi Rawling, and your friend, Curly Fragrance who is a hoot, what a sassy babe she is! You three are now my go-to on male grooming especially on the subject of fragrance. At the advice of Demi, I recently bought L’ Homme Prada, 100ml, and with the first spray out of the box, instantly fell in love with it; it evoked precisely everything Demi described about this fragrance. Although I’m 69, I’m currently still working part-time, hence, I chose this one because it is an “office fragrance”. Next, I will be buying her recommended seasonal fragrances. The Prada fragrance is just a wonderful, bright, clean, floral, cheerful, and sexy fragrance… just as Demi described. Thanks to you all for introducing me and my nose to the wonderful world of scents! 😊
I work in fragrance retail / sales. We use scent strips, and while I do generally advise customers to test the skin. I always lead by scent strips to identify favorable traits in the product beforehand. It's few and far between that I get richly experienced folks who know what they really want.
I haven't watched the video (yet) but mostly just dumbfounded by the fact that there's a 20min video on how to apply cologne, just proves how terribly wrong people are with cologne😅 Truly as professional as it gets. 👏
I watched it and I still don't know the right way to apply cologne. I know what mistakes not to make though. Edit: I found it. He mentions it in between mistake #4 & 5
Have always had many fragrances for different reasons and events. One thing I learned after decades of dating is listen to comments made by your dates and friends. Women in all kinds of situations made comments for instance powder scented colognes seem to have negative comments from women at least in my case or they also had allergy or reactions to them by being close. Sneezing eyes burn etc. And would politely let me know that particular scent wasn't for me they would say and bothered them a little. So I remembered that and usually discarded it. Then others would comment more positively about leather and woods style scents. Seems like though I enjoy many scents to use for different days and nights that many men no longer use any scent. And sometimes men with me will comment somewhat negatively or sarcastically about me wearing a cologne or scent. But regardless I still have a daily routine after every shower to decide what I will wear that day and do so. But women most definetly react and do appreciate a great scent. Even my masseuse at the gym from Costa Rica really appreciates a scent and considers it a show of real class and style. Good site.
Every time I wear Dior Savage, I get a compliment! Every time! It just works with my natural body scent. In Summer, the original Armani Acqua Di Gio always gets noticed. Love them both.
I’ve had some decent scents in my life. Then I got a relatively inexpensive one from Target. It’s a company called Cremo. The fragrance is Blue Cedar & Cypress. People LOVE it. I get compliments from people on it all the time. Maybe it works great with my chemistry.
Yes. The chemistry is everything. Some think you should spend hundreds of dollars for the «best» but you can buy the cheapest as long as they fit your chemistry. Expensive can still smell horrible as there is no way of knowing how the body reacts and sweat adapt too it
Love the channel. Your advise is practical and easy to follow. I forward these to my son in the Air Force who is just starting the manhood journey. I’m in my 50’s and I’m learning new stuff all the time. Keep up the good work👍🏻
Pressing the fragrance together to lightly spread it around is perfectly fine! Vigorous rubbing is totally different and not advised. Page 46 “ Perfumes: the a-z Guide” by Luca Turin an Tania Sanchez.
Thank you for this video. I was looking hard for excellent cologne hygiene etiquette because I want to wear cologne that literally draws women to you. I like the phrase of "being discovered versus being announced"
I used to apply fragrances only on special occasions because they're so expensive but now I've started to use them more thanks to this channel. These videos are really good and informative.
There are lots of good smelling cheaper costing fragrances now. I feel if I go to the trouble to shower, shave, and use deodorant, why not wear a fragrance and smell good too!
@@toddhatch6826 You're totally right. I do like the more expensive ones. I might get cheaper ones in the future that I can wear more often and a few more expensive ones that I'll wear on special occasions
I never leave the house without putting on fragrance. I got so used to it that I feel naked if I'm not wearing one. Use them and abuse them my man, just don`t apply too much so you don`t suffocate people around you lol.
Check out Ross, TLTG, on you tube. He specializes in lower. price fragrances, colones, designer as well as lower price nece. He puts out two or more videos everyday!

There are many gents that should see this very beneficial video! Can’t say how many times their cologne was severely overpowering. This video can change bad cologne habits!! Well done sir!
The fact when you showed the “Bleu de Chanel” and said have you worn a fragrance and didn’t get a compliment. Man….I felt that. I have the EDT version of that and it’s extremely lack luster unless you bathe in it, and it barely lasts
@@kstuckey8 alright brother thanks for your response. I too have the EDT bdC but the performance is quite bad so I will definitely be trying out the parfum version soon
@@googleprofile6660 I own the parfum version and it is slightly better performance wise but still isn’t beast mode. It’s just a more concentrated, deeper/heavier scent. It’s definitely the best of the 3 BDC’s in my opinion. Hope this helps.
One thing to watch out for is putting on fragrances on your skin in the high heat, especially directly in the sun. Which almost ruined my holiday in Spain back in the day, after wearing fragrances on the beach during a heatwave, leaving me covered with painfully burning red spots for over a week. Apparently I didn't learn my lesson, for doing the same thing last week, again still covered with these burning red spots on my nek, chest and arms, even after a week. 🙄 Just spray it on your clothes and of course hair (i.e. when only wearing swimwear).
Of course I did use sunblock. 🤔 They were different types of burns, and they were in the neck and chest (never naturally burned at these spots), exactly where I sprayed the fragrance. 😎
funny thing i never got a compliment for a high priced Parfume, but when i once bought a 7€ Parfume i got complimented about it. I mean i found both smelling amazing otherwise i wouldn't have bought them but sometimes it's a little bit mind boggling
Living in Cambodia I've sifted through many cheap copies. So far I've found a neat perfect copy of Paco blue XS, AdQ absolu, and Azzaro wanted. $5 a bottle and I get compliments. They don't last as long but they are so close most people wouldn't know the difference.
When I was younger I used to use a lot of parfum, and the best and most expensive ones. Nowadays I can not use most of the scents. Yes, I became allergic to most of them and give me a terrible headache. Wanna a tip? Always go slow with them. Use 1 or max 2 sprays. Good luck.
I really do appreciate someone wearing a clean, refreshing cologne in a work environment. Oftentimes, it's an enduring fragrance that whips you right through a time machine.
Thank you for this video. Many of these thoughts and suggestions hadn’t crossed my mind. I have two of my own that may be helpful too. The small cloth swatches that many people discard, I pin them to the back side of my tie and apply my cologne there. Easy to change out fragrances , and minimal chance to discolor my clothing. I also found that this has the added affect of presenting anew when I open my jacket to sit, or when standing up and buttoning my jacket at meetings.
Very informative video. One additional topic that would have been good to include is the shelf life of these products since that is something that factors into the quality of the scents.
Finally someone else who is doing the correct thing, thank you very much for sharing this! I use brands like JPG, PR and so on. I spray not to much, or to little. Specially JPG, their atomizer is great.
15 sprays and I could careless what anyone thinks. I follow every step of these routines. Shower , shave, exfoliate, moisturize and scent up daily. That includes going to the gym. I never stink and get compliments daily. And dress well causally and professionally daily. He has fantastic insight. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I've had great results in spraying it directly into the eyeballs to keep it from radiating too much. No one's ever complained about it being overwhelmingly strong so far.
It ruins skin and hair, you should be showering every other day, got healthy skin and hair, your body adapts to how often you shower after a week or 2 so your oils and sweat will be crazy the first few days
I shower once a week and I'm not a person who has strong body odor. I do this because the water in my house burns my skin and I don't like it. But I am pretty clean and I don't get sick really.
I like it being more subtle and not smell like a testube back in highschool chemeatry class so one spray behind each ear, one on the chest, and one on the back of the neck.
I will wear anything regardless of who it's marketed towards. This past spring and summer I loved Dylan Purple and Eros from Versace and both supposedly womens perfunmes. To me they are fruity, sweet and fun, everything I wanted from a summer fragrance. Now we're moving towards autumn I've started to wear Stronger With You Intensely and today I picked up some Dior Homme Intense. Funnily enough when the assistant sprayed it on the tester strip I hated it but she gave me a tester and I gave it a try. I really dislike the top notes but as soon as the heart and base notes come through it's heaven.
Always something new - thank you Antonio! Spraying on head's hair has a practical advantage... Going for a date you may get your counterpart kissing your neck, chest whatever and tasting perfume is not the best idea:)
Recently got the Versace Eros and the Nautica Voyage and I used some of these tips and everyone comes up to me and I absolutely love it!! I use 2-3 when inside, 4 if I’m outside 🤙👍
If I'm not wearing Jo Malone, typically I'm wearing baldasserini by Hugo boss. I have almost a hundred colognes and those are my favorites. Thank you for the content!! Oftentimes I layer two or more that complement each other that are magnificent... People stop and ask what I'm wearing and when I say I'm wearing more than one it's like it blows their minds lol
I find it interesting how I have applied it correctly by intuition from the start. I received several comments by others noticing how I do it, where they insist I do it wrong by arguing pseudoscience. I never really caved in, but did it occasionally when I remembered it. Glad to find out I did it right in the first place so I can quit the dumb rub and mist-cloud method.
I appreciate your info. However, having been trained by the various parfumeries, we’ve been taught that fragrances also interact differently with body chemistry and most companies highly encourage that fragrances should be used on the body rather than on the clothes- it’s kinda like just spraying the fragrance on an already used blotter card. Specifically because laundry detergents also have their own scents (which can counteract with the scent you use).
But he said this. That info about spraying on clothing was for the people who freak out about putting alcohol on their skin, not a recommendation of how to apply.
This is very true. When I bought my current cologne, the girl behind the counter said "I LOVE this fragrance. And it reacts with your natural pheromones, so the longer you have it on, the better it smells."
As someone who has allergies but does like to apply fragrances, it's a balance. Certain notes or putting too much on will cause my allergies to act up, whereas others I'm fine with. I need to start building my collection again lol.
I'm allergic to most fragrances but luckily found one I don't get nausea and migraines from. But I don't wear it very often because I'm not a very social person.
Under "Mistake #7," you talk about finding what works for YOU. First, I feel like I don't have the most discerning sense of smell; I don't pick up on things as much as say my girlfriend does, and second, once I have a fragrance on me, it's not long before I become "nose blind" to it, and I can hardly tell it's still on me, let alone how it may have changed on ME over time. How would you advise really learning how a given fragrance performs - and on ME - short of just frequently asking my girlfriend?
I really wanna confess that as a kid I loved wearing my mom’s perfumes. Elizabeth Arden was my favourite until my favor fell on Dolce x Gabbanna when my dad bought me some perfumes
I take a bath every morning and apply cologne about 10min after, that's already my morning routine. HOWEVER, I live in a tropical country. More precisely, I live in a hot and very humid part of the country, with 27°C average temperature (81F) and about 80% air humidity. So I feel like colognes simply don't last very long here. Is there any trick for someone who live in those conditions to have their scent last longer?
I've built up quite a collection of fragrances thanks to your channel so thank you. invictus victory is my current fav just now but I always go back to le male, especially the parfum version of it.x
I have a scent that I love but if I spray it on my chest over my cloths, just one spray will give me a headache all day. I started spraying three sprays in the air and walking through it and I don’t get a headache anymore. What should I do?
Acqua di Gio is my go-to. I get by far the most compliments on the scent seemingly year round. Not all that expensive by any means and it actually lasts. Solid pickup for a more daily driver scent, even great for a night out.
I spray on my neck and chest area or maybe above my forearms if I'm doing short sleeves. I actually avoid my wrists because I'm more inclined to rub it in instinctually when on the wrist area. I use Floris of London Honey Oud and that one for me works best when on the neck because it's strong and long lasting and projects pretty substantially in my opinion.
There's two 'mistakes' in this video: rubbing and layering. Both of these are indeed bad _in general._ However, if someone *wants* to break the rules, there are cases where that works _better._ With rubbing, mixing the tones into a linear scent rather than what the designer intended, might be a better fit. The same applies to layering. In most cases, it won't work. But if you experiment a bit, you could find a combination that works exceptionally well. All of these will be highly individualistic though! Scents always smell different on my skin than on a tester... so apparently my skin oil (or moisturizer?) interacts with the perfume, somehow. So rubbing may work for one person with one fragrance, but not for a different person using the same fragrance, or the same person using a different fragrance.... As such, doing so is not 'bad' but *must* be a carefully considered choice.
Honestly I'm not buying the whole "rubbing makes fragrances linear" thing. No matter if you rub them or not, top notes like citrus will always be a lot more volatile and evaporate faster than heart or base notes likes musks. The music analogy is completely besides the point because molecules and sound waves work on completely different physical principles.
@@MrNicoJac "Analogy" as defined by the oxford dictionary: "a comparison of one thing with another thing that has similar features; a feature that is similar" Perfume and music have zero similar features when you look at them from a physical point of view. Where's the irony?
Yep. Natural skin oils contaminate the way a scent should smell. I just spritz it on my shirt and that's it. I only wear it on occasion and that it, usually for an event like a wedding.
The main problem you'll run in with all fragrances, from multi layered to linear, 90% of it all, dries off into vanilla, the base/final note, will almost always be vanilla, so if you don't like vanilla, you'll be washing it off quickly.
Someone I work with always lathers colognes on. You know when he's coming and you know where he was. Sometimes a few minutes after he leaves the room you can still smell that he was there.
I just got the creed millesime imperial. The tip about how weak the projection on that one is was SUPER helpful. Gotta go a little heavier on the application than if i was using, say a creed aventus.
This is a REALLY useful video! We can't all afford Creed Aventis. Maximizing the scents that are more suited to my budget is something I've wanted to know about for a while. Thanks Antonio! I guarantee this is one I'll come back to. Added to favourites 👍
Shout out to me for wearing cologne today. Went in to an apartment building it smelled like everyone was smoking fresh stale cigs. Had to cover my nose and got to smell my cologne
Just a quick technical observation if I may: You switch mics at 10:15 and the audio has an audible hiss from that point. Whatever mic you used for "smash that like button" bit, is much better (more sonoros bass and no high kilohertz hiss. Basically, your voice sounds far superior with the pre 10:15 mic so y'kno, you should use that one for all your vids. 😃 Really enjoying your channel too.
Yes the mist wastes some but the last thing I want is to wreak of cologne. The mist method provides a light and subtle scent. Haven’t sprayed directly on myself since high school and will never do it again.
Shower, moisturize, then spray your perfume. People don't realize how bad the alcohol in perfume is for your skin health. If your skin health is poor, the oils won't sit on the skin and dissipate the way they're designed to. Don't spray close to your nose. Switch up your perfume. You will get used to a fragrance and won't even notice it but you'll be making your coworkers gag. When I see negative reviews, I imagine they are making these mistakes.
Hey thanks for the video! Great information. It really helped me a lot and increased overall confidence in wearing fragrances properly. I’m gonna take you up on you’re offer and ask a question to something I didn’t see that was touched upon. So I’ve heard from some people that after holding onto a fragrance for too long that it begins to alter the smell and it will “turn” after some time. Is this true? Thanks again. God bless.
They're relatively cheap, but I absolutely love Pete and Pedros take on Tobacco Vanille called Villain. I wear Dolche and Gabannas Intenso from spring to summer and Pete and Pedros Villain in Fall and Winter and it seems to work super well
That’s one of my main colognes, Dolce & Gabanna Light Blue. I simply just spray 3 times: pants neck, and stomach area. I’ve gotten compliments for the smell so definitely works that way
first guy to not reccomend 4-7 sprays with cologne, i wish i saw this earlier, as the first time i used cologne i oversprayed and was stuck in a car with 4 other people
I think this video is great. I use Creed Aventus purfume and cologne together with a 2 to 1 layered mix favoring the perfume. I get compliments ALL. THE. TIME! Citrus and sweet on the front with a hint of musk on the back. Perfection.
Very good advice. I have had fragrances on test strips that I did not like and on my skin I loved them and the other way around. Sometimes I like a fragrance on other people but not on myself. Blind buying fragrances is not the best idea. Always try to get a test sample first if you can. When applying it in the perfumery you will be overwhelmed by other smells and not have the chance to really discover the whole scent profile of the fragrance. If you find one you like, I can only recommend to apply it on your skin and walk around for an hour or two and see if you still like it. In the perfumery you will almost only be able to smell the top notes, which will last for a few minutes. I prefer to go to perfumeries where the employees can open the door and get some fresh air in every half an hour. Otherwise all these scents mixed together can really confuse your nose.
Back in the day, so to speak, I was gifted with a set of colognes called Nine Flags. They were small round glass bottles marked France, England, Germany, etc. It was fun changing up on different days. One of my favorite colognes was Aramis, a strong recognizable scent that overwhelms your presence. One day a few years ago I caught wind of a unique fragrance I never smelled before. I asked the bearded gent near me what cologne was that. He said it's not cologne but an oil. He opened his brief case and took out a small bottle with a cork in it. He said he was Saudi Arabian and that they use oils not alcohol base colognes. How interesting, I thought. I researched where I could obtain such oils. I found that some cigar shops and indoor swap meet places had vendors selling fragrant oils. I tried many different ones and purchased half a dozen small bottles. The old Brilcream slogan; a little dab will do ya was true with these oils. Not to be discovered a block away by overpowering colognes; I now get compliments from the ladies on how good I smell when they get close. Mulberry, Drakar Noir copycat and especially Jasmine smell great.
I’ll try using it on the skin rather than clothes. For me my fave has to be Sauvage Elixir, but it’s definitely a fall/winter scent so I’m being patient and trying other fragrances out for spring and summer. Aqua Media I found to be perfect for summer.
Love the you tube videos. Great channel. This is subjective, though I think it's actually an objective truth. Only apply a fragrance to bare skin. Do not apply a fragrance to clothing. All the best

Applying perfume on lotion is not ideal. The alcohol in the perfume ends up breaking down the lotion.
It should be down the other around. Apply the perfume let it settle then apply the lotion. This locks in the perfume longer on the body

Thanks for this!
spraying cologne with some moisturizer on your skin also makes it last longer.
I watch a fair number of fragance videos. I think this the first time I hear a clear argumented explanation about why rubbing fragance is not good. Saludos Antonio

Some clarifications on naming conventions, because I noticed a few possible misinterpretations a person can make that weren't expanded upon in the video.
Eau Fraiche: 1-3%
Aftershave/Splash- 2-4%
EDC: Eau De Cologne- 2-4%
EDT: Eau De Toilette- 5-15%
EDP: Eau De Parfum- 15-20%
Extrait: Extrait de Parfum - 20-40+%
Most of what was said is spot on, however, a fragrance that says Eau Fraiche in the name isn't always Fraiche concentration.
(Highly recommended ultra masculine frag btw)
Bonus tip: As an alternative to the neck, right above your collarbones under your shirt is one of the best locations to spray as they're high heat locations because they're right by the subclavian arteries, and unlike the neck, is hidden from light, so they will pump out your fragrance harder, while also lasting longer. Fragrances when exposed to sunlight dissipate and breakdown quicker. (also why it's best to store fragrances in a dark location, or at least away from sunlight. Artificial is fine. UV is the issue.)
Hopefully this helped anyone new to fragrances.

Lol…I almost avoided the video because it was too long. But I decided to click on it hoping to find comments that showed a quick rundown.
Versace Eros (blue), I just purchased. I've had four or five inquires at work, since purchasing, three or four days ago.

Yes. The chemistry is everything. Some think you should spend hundreds of dollars for the «best» but you can buy the cheapest as long as they fit your chemistry. Expensive can still smell horrible as there is no way of knowing how the body reacts and sweat adapt too it

Just spray it on your clothes and of course hair (i.e. when only wearing swimwear).
Or use sunblock!
Um hello, have you ever thought about maybe just using some SUNBLOCK 🧴
Of course I did use sunblock. 🤔
They were different types of burns, and they were in the neck and chest (never naturally burned at these spots), exactly where I sprayed the fragrance. 😎
funny thing i never got a compliment for a high priced Parfume, but when i once bought a 7€ Parfume i got complimented about it.

If the store carries them properly (which they most likely will as they arent super demanding), they should last pretty damn long
Never knew putting on cologne had techniques to it. You learn something everyday. Subbed.
Finally someone else who is doing the correct thing, thank you very much for sharing this!

I have a scent that I love but if I spray it on my chest over my cloths, just one spray will give me a headache all day. I started spraying three sprays in the air and walking through it and I don’t get a headache anymore. What should I do?
Do what you are comfortable with, generalized rules are not for everyone
Doing that way Diffuses your cologne/parfum…
You get headache because you are spraying where you will be smelling it yourself the most.
Acqua di Gio is my go-to. I get by far the most compliments on the scent seemingly year round. Not all that expensive by any means and it actually lasts. Solid pickup for a more daily driver scent, even great for a night out.
Agree , amazing fragrance ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Polo Blue, Black, and Drakhur are my faves so far.
Both of these are indeed bad _in general._
However, if someone *wants* to break the rules, there are cases where that works _better._
With rubbing, mixing the tones into a linear scent rather than what the designer intended, might be a better fit.

My winter fragrance is Creed Santal, and that stuff is so strong you have to be really careful. And it lasts all day!
Yep. Natural skin oils contaminate the way a scent should smell. I just spritz it on my shirt and that's it. I only wear it on occasion and that it, usually for an event like a wedding.
Excellent video, as always from Antonio Centeno. I didn't know I had been wearing fragrance the wrong way for years. Thank you so much for the advice.
The main problem you'll run in with all fragrances, from multi layered to linear, 90% of it all, dries off into vanilla, the base/final note, will almost always be vanilla, so if you don't like vanilla, you'll be washing it off quickly.
If you're wearing a fragrance and you're not getting compliments, you're doing something right.
Spraying behind each ear and on the side of the neck are good areas as well.
Someone I work with always lathers colognes on. You know when he's coming and you know where he was. Sometimes a few minutes after he leaves the room you can still smell that he was there.
😂😂
Better than smelling like he crapped his pants.
The performance of aventus is so weak now, not even worth buying imo
Just get ARMAF Club De Nuit Intense Man or Montblanc Explorer
i see that u are working hard in your field and the best perfume youtube channel i see . keep it up
Perfectly put.. I found the Aventus really good but the time period is really small..
I feel like this would be great if I didn't buy all my fragrances from Ross
Ross has some good economically priced fragrances.
God bless.
Discovered, not announced! This is gold, thank you.
They're relatively cheap, but I absolutely love Pete and Pedros take on Tobacco Vanille called Villain. I wear Dolche and Gabannas Intenso from spring to summer and Pete and Pedros Villain in Fall and Winter and it seems to work super well
I love dolce & Gabbana the one in the blue sued box. How do you feel about that one and how should I apply
That’s one of my main colognes, Dolce & Gabanna Light Blue. I simply just spray 3 times: pants neck, and stomach area. I’ve gotten compliments for the smell so definitely works that way
Thats one of my favorite in my collection
This is very helpful and as a Navy veteran I appreciate the honesty
first guy to not reccomend 4-7 sprays with cologne, i wish i saw this earlier, as the first time i used cologne i oversprayed and was stuck in a car with 4 other people
Watch enthusiasts know all too well the pain of wearing nice things that get no compliments lol
I usually use Old Spice for my fragrance and I prefer to use the little plug to apply so it controls the application more.
